NonToxicated! Hybrid mobile app development

In November and December 2020 we desgined and built the hybrid Android and iOS mobile apps for NonToxicated! - The Alcohol-Free Drinks Directory. The brief was to build a fully functional mobile app within two months and release it in the Google Play and Apple App Stores.

Choosing hybrid

We chose a hybrid framework on this occasion as we needed to move very fast and found that the requirements did not demand platform-specific features. A hybrid framework is one that allows the app developer to create an app using a single codebase that can be turned into both an iOS and an Android app. We chose React Native for our hybrid solution as it matched our existing React skills and allowed us to build rapidly within a tight deadline.

Rails backend

For the admin and API backend we chose our favourite go-to: Ruby on Rails. Once again Rails shines in productivity, especially when building unglamorous administrative user interfaces.
